ZarBee’s Children’s Cough Syrup Testimonial By A Pediatrician

February 18th, 2009

Recently ZarBee’s received the following testimonial from a pediatrician who has been using ZarBee’s Cough Syrup for her patients.  Dr. Luce stumbled upon some ZarBee’s Samples and was intrigued by the new children’s cough syrup that claimed to be natural, safe and effective.

“As frustrated providers seeing common colds in children under age 4 with nothing to recommend… we now have an evidence based product [ZarBee's] to recommend to parents that helps alleviate symptoms. Feedback from parents is excellent and our practice gets many phone calls asking where they can obtain Zarbee’s.  We haven’t found much evidence to support OTC cold remedy use in older children either, so we are recommending Zarbee’s for them as well.  Thanks for bringing this product to the market!”

Dr. Mari Luce, Pediatric Care of Ogden

Check out this happy customer who ended up doing a product review:

“Hello, My name is Mia Spiker.  I recently recieved a sample of your cough syrup and used it with my 2 year old daughter.  It works almost instantly!!!  I love it, and so did she.  That is very unusual that she like a cough syrup, as they always taste nasty as she puts it.  We have a Martins Foods Store and a Walmart Super Center.  I would love to see it in one of those stores soon.  Thank you so much.  Again, this is the best working and tasting cough syrup that I have come across.  Thank you for your time.”  M.S. Virginia

Well, once again we have a super happy customer with an honest review of our product. Try for yourself!!

The only thing we ask when we send out a sample of ZarBee’s Cough Syrup is that you 1)Try it out 2) Tell your friends and family that you were sent a sample to try out 3) Rave about it to your friends and family!

Enjoy a healthy, comfortable throat!!

ZarBee’s Cough Syrup Reviews

February 11th, 2009

ZarBee’s has recently been working with local and national bloggers to test, try and write honest opinions of our new cough syrup.  We have had a most excellent response that we are proud of. If you any of you are interested in doing a review, let us know.  You can email me at dannyv@zarbees.com.

Thanks to thenotsoblog.blogspot for this review. We got a great response.

Nothing is worse than the feeling of helplessness when you hear your little one cough through the night. With the FDA banning most cold and cough medicines for children, parents have few alternatives. After a literature review, the creators of ZarBee’s found that most of the clinical trials show that cough medicines are no more effective than using nothing at all. However, they did find that in children ages 2-18 with upper respiratory infections, that buckwheat honey was more effective than dextromethorphan (also called DM and commonly found in Robitussin, Dimetapp, Delsym, etc.) in reducing nighttime coughs, child sleep, and parent sleep.

Using special blends of dark honey, vitamins, and all other natural ingredients, ZarBee’s created an incredibly effective cough syrup that is safe enough to be used in children all the way down to 12 months of age. Time and time again, it has proven to be effective in reducing coughs and sore throats due to throat irritation.Zarbee’s sent me two bottles of cough syrup to try out: the cherry flavor and the lemon flavor. The bottles arrived just in time (how did they know I had a scratchy throat?)! I tried both flavors over the course of two days and I can honestly say that my throat is not as irritated and I was able to finally get some rest. I definitely like the cherry flavor better, but depsite the fact that I am not too big on lemon flavoring, the lemon syrup was not all that bad!

I wanted to check with my Pediatrician before giving this product to Lily if she ever needs it. So, I sent her the website for ZarBee’s and this is what she had to say:

The first thing to notice is that it’s only recommended for 12 months and up. It is not safe to give honey to children under 12 months (their immune systems cannot handle possible contamination with botulism)! That being said, this is a possible alternative to regular cough syrups. Studies have shown honey to be effective for cough, not necessarily better, but effective. I should clear up that drug labeling on cough/cold meds have changed to “do not give under 4 years old” (and sometimes under 6) due to parents overdosing and accidental ingestions. The medications themselves can be safe and effective when used properly. So always ask your pediatrician for the proper dosage when not on the label, and always keep medicines out of your child’s reach. A cool mist humidifier is still best for little ones under 12 months (still helpful for the older ones too). ZarBee’s is a reasonable alternative, and i’m sure it tastes better, too!”

You can purchase ZarBee’s online for $9.99 and it should be available in major retailers soon!

The ZarBee’s Children’s Cough Syrup Story

December 12th, 2008

Hello and thank you for visiting our blog. My name is Dr. Zak Zarbock, M.D.  Not only am I a practicing pediatrician, but also a grateful husband married to the love of my life and the father of four energetic boys.  After finishing medical school at Ohio State, we moved our family to Utah where I completed a pediatric residency.  It was also in Utah that we experienced many cold winters, filled not only with many beautiful ski days, but plenty of coughs, sore throats and runny noses.
Towards the end of the 2007-2008 cold and flu season I grew tired of watching my patients and my own children suffer through coughs and sore throats with no relief.  Like many parents, we were also frustrated with the FDA bans on cough and cold medicines, even though we never really felt like they worked.  It was just comforting to be able to give a medicine rather than listen as one or more of our boys hacked away all night.  It was during one of those long, sleepless nights that I decided to find a better way.
Starting with extensive research and a literature review, I found that there has never been a good study showing that over-the-counter cough and cold medicines are effective in children.  In fact, most of the clinical trials show that cough medicines are no more effective than using nothing at all. Fortunately, I came across another clinical trial performed at Penn State University.  The study involved children, aged 2-18 with upper respiratory infections, and showed that buckwheat honey was more effective than dextromethorphan (also called DM and commonly found in Robitussin, Dimetapp, Delsym, etc.) in reducing nighttime coughs, child sleep, and parent sleep.
This all sounded too good to be true, and in some ways it was.   I found out the hard way when I tried to gulp down a large spoonful of buckwheat honey, and my heart sunk further when my 3 year-old’s gag reflex was in full effect with the first swallow.   The research continued.
I found that buckwheat honey, a dark honey colored by the flower from which it is derived, isn’t the only honey that is high in antioxidants and very nutritious.  I was able to identify several varieties of dark honey with different types of antioxidants that when combined form a more complete antioxidant profile.  The taste though, being much stronger than traditional clover honey, was still an issue.  This is the part where I involved my chemistry friends.  Together, we were able to find all-natural lemon and cherry flavors, subtle enough to give a pleasant taste, yet strong enough to take off the edge.  This was confirmed when my weak stomached 3 year-old asked for a little bit more.
To make it complete, we added a full serving of vitamin C with each dose and zinc gluconate to provide a little assistance to the immune system.  And, using an old family nickname, we called our concoction “ZarBee’s.” What we created was an incredibly effective cough syrup that is safe enough to be used in children all the way down to 12 months of age.  Time and time again, it has proven to be effective in reducing coughs and sore throats due to throat irritation.  And lucky for us as parents, it has provided a few extra hours of much needed shut-eye.
And that, is the story of how ZarBee’s Children’s Cough Syrup came to be.  Thank you for visiting our blog.  Please leave us comments and feedback.  Check the blog frequently for upcoming news, tips, coupons, and promotions.
